Why do we love control?

Fear is our emotional response to losing control. When I see a big hairy spider, I want to kill it as fast as I can. I feel like I need to regain control over the safety of my family! Human nature seems to be to hold on tighter to control when there is increasing uncertainty. As Christians, I do not think that is what we are called to do.
Over the past couple of years, there have been numerous messages about faith over fear. It makes sense if fear is our emotional response to losing control. The past couple of years has seen the highest levels of uncertainty than I can remember. Uncertainty = lack of control = fear.
With control comes added responsibility. As an adult, I have more responsibility than I could ever want. I have a home that needs constant tending, laundry that is never-ending, a sink of dirty dishes that is constantly full, and the list goes on! Some of our responsibilities are necessary, but I think we try to gain control in areas that are unhealthy for us.
As Christians, we are to have faith. Faith is the act of trusting. Trusting is the act of letting go. Our human nature is to hold tightly to control and the more uncertainty comes, the more tightly we try to hold on. Faith is letting go of control. It is more than that, it is giving control to God. Here is the great thing, with God in control you no longer have responsibility. You have freedom!
A life of surrender to God is a life of peace. It is a life of freedom. It is a life of fearlessness. Where are you holding tightly in your life? Is it exhausting? Let it go.
